2021-2022 Officer Candidates

Chair - Jennifer Schuck, USA

Jennifer Schuck is a 1993 graduate of MacCormac College, Elmhurst, Illinois. Beginning her career as a reporter doing judicial work, Jennifer’s long-term aspiration was to become a captioner.

After ten years of court reporting, Jennifer had the opportunity to receive training to transition from court reporting to captioning. In December of 2003, she left her freelance reporting position full-time to begin captioning and founded her captioning company, Caption Pros, based in Scottsdale, Arizona.

As President of her company, Jennifer and her team provide captioning for any venue, no matter how large or how small. She is an award-winning captioner and 14-year veteran of the captioning industry, thus committed to providing the best captioning for every consumer, whether one-on-one or in a convention center. You will likely find her walking through an airport with her equipment in tow.

She has served on numerous committees:

  • Member and chairperson, NCRA CART Community of Interest Committee
  • Member of the NCRA CRC Realtime Certification Committee
  • Chair of the Arizona Court Reporters Association’s CART committee.
  • Co-chair of the Captioning Ethics Task Force, which created the ethical guidelines for captioners.

Some of her achievements include:

  • Hearing Loss Association of America’s Chapter Professional award (2011)
  • Arizona Court Reporter Association’s Distinguished Service Award (2012)
  • Fellow of the Academy of Professional Reporters (Chicago 2016)
  • First place NCRA Realtime Q&A competition (Las Vegas 2017)
  • First Place Intersteno Speech Capturing – Speed competition (Berlin 2017)

Jennifer is passionate about making the spoken word accessible through captioning. As an advocate for those with hearing loss, she is a supporter of the Hearing Loss Association of America and her company sponsors the Arizona Walk4Hearing each year.

Secretary - Julia Emerson, USA

Julia is a Certified Voice Writer (CVR) based near Charlotte, N.C. She worked as a freelance court reporter in 2012 in Georgia. Julia moved to North Carolina in 2015. She worked as an official until 2020 and finally transitioned to a career in captioning in 2020. Her court reporting career gave her the cutting edge she needed to transition professionally and confidently to captioning.

Julia founded the closed Facebook group Realtime Voice Writers in 2016. The mission of the group is to help voice writers connect, improve on their skills and strive for advanced certifications. The vision of the group is to support voice writing reporters, CART and caption providers to connect and support each other as well as supporting their state and national associations.

Julia's professional memberships include: National Verbatim Reporters Association: 2012 - present North Carolina Verbatim Reporters Association: 2015 - 2017, 2018 - present North Carolina Association of Official Court Reporters: 2015 - present Georgia Court Reporters Association: 2012 - 2015.

 Treasurer - Kimberly Shea, USA

Kimberly is a founding member of the Global Alliance. She made that commitment because she believes that captioners have needed an organization of their own for a very long time, one that represents them separate and apart from other industries. She believes that consumer representation in the organization is vital because it provides a space for those who use captions to have a voice regarding their accommodations. It also creates a united front when it comes to showing the public not only how captions are provided and the importance of quality but also the value of the service and the difference it makes in people’s lives every day. Kimberly's passion and advocacy for her profession and for the communities we serve is not mutually exclusive. She believes that we still have much to do regarding awareness and education, and is excited to do that alongside those she serves.
