We look forward to seeing you on August 5!
Board Executive Officer Update
Nominations have been received for three of the four Officer positions – Chair, Secretary and Treasurer. The Chair and Chair-Elect positions, per our bylaws, must be filled by a current Board member. Karyn Menck, our current Vice-Chair, has agreed to stay on as Chair-Elect, but only until a Director can move into that position. That will then create a vacant Director’s seat on the Board. If you’re interested in serving as a Director on our Board, please let us know by emailing us.
Steve Clark, our current Chair, will become Immediate Past Chair, which is a nonvoting, advisory position on the Board of Directors.
You can read more about the proposed slate of Officers here:
Jennifer Schuck, USA, Chair (steno captioner)
VACANT, Chair-Elect
Julia Emerson, USA, Secretary (voice captioner)
Kimberly Shea, USA, Treasurer (steno captioner)

Per our bylaws, Board members voted on the slate of nominees prior to the Board meeting on August 11, with new Officers being installed during the meeting. All Global Alliance Board meetings are open to any member and are fully accessible.  Log in to your membership profile here to access meeting details.
Global Alliance to Partner with Association of Transcribers & Speech-to-Text Providers
Representatives of the Global Alliance met recently with ATSP Vice President Gretchen Rumsey-Richardson and Board Member KeriAnn Hollerud. ATSP is a non-profit organization devoted to advancing the delivery of real-time speech-to-text services to deaf or hard-of-hearing people by establishing a national standard of excellence for realtime transcribers and captionists.
During our call we discussed hosting a joint webinar, free to all members of both organizations. We also plan to develop short educational videos to showcase the services provided by our respective members. These videos will be available on our websites to help consumers and those who schedule speech-to-text services to better understand the many forms of captioning that are available.
We’re excited to team with ATSP.  More updates to come!

Global Alliance Online Presentation at ODUP 2021

On June 11, Global Alliance Chair Steve Clark and Treasurer Jen Schuck presented virtually at “Opening Doors - Unlocking Potential (ODUP) 2021.” Presented by the Virginia Professional Development Institute, this event is for professionals and families who support students who are deaf and hard of hearing.
ODUP is Virginia's go-to event in public school deaf and hard-of-hearing education. It is designed to increase the knowledge and skills of professionals and parents working directly with students who are deaf and hard of hearing.
Steve and Jen presented on the basics of captioning; the many forms and types of captioning, including steno, voice and C-Print/TypeWell, as well as live versus post-production; and the importance of using captions to provide accessibility, not only for students who have hearing loss but also anyone who benefits from both hearing and reading what is being said.
Thank you, Jen and Steve, for devoting your time to this terrific event!
