What makes you want to join an association? There are so many nonprofit organizations in the world. They are all started with a specific goal in mind. In general, they all want to make the world a better place, improve the lives of society in one way or another. With nearly 20% of the world’s population having some level of hearing loss, this is exactly why the Global Alliance needs your membership. Hearing loss is an invisible disability, but you know this already. Professional captioners are frustrated with the industry. Consumers are frustrated with less-than-effective communication access on television or no access to events such as city council meetings.

Global Alliance Update - June 1, 2022
Here we are embarking on summer – except for our friends in the southern hemisphere who are headed into their winter. There are many issues in the world that need advocacy. Here in the U.S. it is Pride Month which celebrates the diversity of the LGBTQ community. It also shines a spotlight on the work that needs to be done all around the world to create a diverse and inclusive community in everything we do.
- Global Alliance Update - April 1, 2022
We are one quarter of the way into 2022. The world continues to have much conflict. The one thing that has not changed is advocacy for human rights. To that end, Kimberly Shea, Treasurer, and I participated in the Disability Justice Fair on March 26, hosted by New York State, District 56, Assemblywoman Stefani Zinerman. Particularly, we participated in the panel discussion regarding IEPs in the state. Since this was a hybrid event, Typewell captions as well as ASL were available via Zoom.

The NER-Certified Speech-to-Text Provider assessment is now accepting registrants! This certification proves to consumers and clients that you have the captioning skills to provide the best service in the industry. Why should you get NER-certified? The NER model is the best assessment of a real-world captioning setting. It doesn’t matter if you are a stenographer, voice writer, or have an ASR engine providing captions. Quality metrics are important regardless of the method. Do you have more questions?

Global Alliance Update - January 31, 2022
With two years in the making, our certification program has launched. The Global Alliance was founded with the idea that there would be a certification that accurately assessed a captioner's skills. "Time has flown by and January 2022 is here! Steve [Clark] and I have met our goal. The NCSP certification is now available!” says Chris Ales, co-chair of the Certification/Assessment Committee. “Without the support of the task force -- Ken Frommert, Lukasz Dutka, Josh Foley, and Deanna Baker -- we would not have met our goal of a January 2022 rollout.”

This is one of the main reasons the Global Alliance was formed, to have a program where consumers and purchasers of captioning services could make informed decisions on procuring quality captioning.
