As we approach the last quarter of 2021, I reflect back and wonder: Where has the year gone? However, the more important question is: What are the plans for the future? The Global Alliance is working hard on the details to be able to roll out our certification program in early 2022. This is one of the main reasons the Global Alliance was formed, to have a program where consumers and purchasers of captioning services could make informed decisions on procuring quality captioning.
Our certification program will be based on the NER model, which stands for number, edition and recognition errors. The Global Alliance has two members who are certified evaluators for the NER model. This model was created by Pablo Romero-Fresco, one of our Founding Members. It is in use in Canada and Australia and some countries in the European Union. Follow us on our social media channels, Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter, as we will be holding live sessions to explain this model. We encourage you to join and ask questions!
We will also be holding “Empower Hour” sessions going forward. These live, one-hour sessions will have a topic of focus. These virtual gatherings are designed to grow our captioning community and help educate the public at-large. Again, stay tuned to our social media channels for more information.
The Global Alliance is not short on ideas! However, we are short on manpower to help bring all these great ideas to fruition. If you are passionate about quality captioning, help us make a difference. Join us as a member today and get involved. Advocacy takes a village! The Global Alliance is the exact organization, due to the nature of its membership model, to help raise awareness. Consumers, advocates and professionals all banding together to make a difference!
