Policies and Procedures Committee

Committee shall review existing bylaws and policies and procedures and suggest revisions, updates or additions.

Committee shall be comprised of five members, with no more than two members from one area of expertise.

A committee Chair and Vice Chair shall be appointed by the Chair of the Board of Directors. Committee shall meet virtually on a quarterly basis, at minimum.

Membership and Nominations Committee

Committee shall maintain current roster of members, arranged by member type (captioner-steno, captioner-voice, captioner-phone, captioner-ASR, captioner-CPrint/Typewell; consumer; industry; educator; advocate.) Committee shall create and present to the Board ideas to recruit new members. Committee shall solicit from membership suggested nominees for open Board seats, communicate with suggested nominees to determine interest and present to the Board a slate of prospective nominees.

Assessment and Certification Committee

Committee shall create testing to be administered to captioners to earn certification and recognition of skills. Testing shall be presented to the appropriate testing governing body for approval. Upon approval, committee shall coordinate with Board to take next steps to work with a testing administrator to test candidates. Committee shall recommend certification designations (e.g., Professional Realtime Captioner) to the Board.

Fundraising Committee

Committee shall research methods of fundraising, to include corporate sponsorship, grants and partnering with other nonprofits and professional associations, and report regularly to the Board with recommendations.

A committee Chair and Vice Chair shall be appointed by the Chair of the Board of Directors. Committee shall meet virtually on a quarterly basis, at minimum.

Strategic Partnership Committee

Committee shall develop and foster strategic partnership relationships with groups such as Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA), National Association of the Deaf (NAD), and others. Relationships include participation in national conferences and fundraising opportunities, such as the HLAA Walk4Hearing.

Guidelines Committee

Committee shall create online documents to be used by consumers and those scheduling or requesting captioning services to help them fully understand all forms and methods of captioning and considerations when requesting services. Links to the Global Alliance website and other online resources, as well as an online decision tree, will be included.
