Carrying the torch for accessibility

The Global Alliance is celebrating its five-year anniversary at CapCom on August 10 at 12:00 noon U.S. Eastern time. FIVE YEARS! CapCom is our annual virtual FUNdraiser where the captioning community comes together to celebrate accessible communication and raise funds to allow the Global Alliance to keep doing its good work for years to come.

This year's theme is "Carrying the torch for accessibility." There are exciting speakers lined up that you will not want to miss, such as current writer-at-large at NBC Sports and NBCSports.com and former writer for Sports Illustrated and SI.com, Tim Layden!

The Global Alliance is an association that endeavors to raise the quality of captions throughout the captioning industry by:

Empowering consumers and captioners as they work together to influence change and policy.
Spreading education and awareness about achieving and maintaining equal and effective communication access.
Providing the NER-Certified Speech-to-Text Provider certification to sustain the quality of all methods of captioning.
Providing educational and networking opportunities for captioning consumers, captioning advocates, and captioners.

Have you been to a sporting event, concert, theatre, museum, tour, or just out-and-about where you saw captions you didn't expect? And they were just so good? Tell us about it! We'd like to send a shout-out on our socials to the outstanding effort being made to make the experience inclusive to those with hearing loss.

Submit a short blurb with how the accessibility enhanced your experience, along with a photo or 3-5 second video of the captions (if allowed by the venue/artist), and send it to us via social media DM or to our email at info@speechtotextcaptioning.org.

Practical Ways to Increase Awareness and Self-Care in the New Year

This is a 5-part webinar series presented by Ninette Hupp, LMSW, ACC, Remote Coach & Consultant at Catalyst Confidante.

From Ninette: "So often we feel self-care is selfish when really it is health care. Life is demanding. Chronic stress from the endless to-do lists, the speed bumps, potholes and hairpin turns inherent in our own lives, not to mention the vicarious trauma we experience from witnessing others' incredible challenges and loss. In the sessions we will acknowledge this is a part of the human experience in today's world and we will explore ways that we can support ourselves and our overall well being in doable ways. Join us to create your own toolkit and begin exploring which tools work best for you in which situations."

The series will take place over the course of 5 weeks, 1 hour per week, on Tuesdays from 12:00-1:00 pm ET, beginning on January 7, 2025. While you are able to purchase sessions individually, the sessions build upon one another, so it is encouraged that you attend all five if possible.

Week 1, January 7, 2025: Appreciating the impact of everyday challenges: Stressors, Triggers, Trauma

Week 2, January 14, 2025: Expanding self-awareness

Week 3, January 21, 2025: Expanding interpersonal and situational awareness

Week 4, January 28, 2025: Determining which tools are best to use when

Week 5, February 4, 2025: Vision of the future one step at a time

Global Alliance Members: $10 per session or all 5 for $40 (best deal!)

Non-Members: $20 per session or all 5 for $80 (best deal!)
