As a long-time consumer of captioning, I would be honored to be a Director of the Global Alliance as a consumer. I am passionate about providers producing captions which are accurate, well-positioned and highly readable. Captions are integral to my ability to fully function and participate in this hearing world. I am currently President of Hearing Loss Association of America, California State Association (HLAA-CA). All our meetings, Board and local chapter, depend on the accuracy and readability of captioning – whether it be CART or speech-to-text.

As President of HLAA-CA, I am proud of what the Board has accomplished, especially during the pandemic. We introduced our state chapter leaders to tele-conferencing and increased their autonomy in connecting with their members – especially difficult with the major platforms not providing captioning options; we learned to be creative. Additionally, we developed and offered state- and nation-wide webinars allowing us to continue our mission of education, information, support and advocacy. Captioning, of course, was provided at each of these meetings. I continue to be active with my local HLAA chapter here in Southern California on its Board of Directors as past President.

As Chair of the Administrative Committee of the California Deaf and Disabled Telecommunications Program (TADDAC), it has been gratifying to lead the program toward expanding and modernizing its offerings, specifically Remote Conferencing Captioning and a Real-Time-Text relay program.

In addition to the experience and qualifications mentioned above, I am a graduate of Occidental College in Los Angeles, CA, with a Master of Science Degree in Administrative Services from Pepperdine University. I am certified as a trainer with the Network of Consumer Hearing Assistive Technology Trainers (N-CHATT). I am also a member of the California Court Reporters Association’s CART and Broadcasting Captioning Committee and the ASTM 43.06 Captioning Subcommittee.
