Kimberly Shea, PAST Chair (2024-2025)Kimberly Shea, NCSP, CRC, owner of Breaking Barriers Captioning, is a founding member of the Global Alliance of Speech-to-Text Captioning. She is the current Chair and has served as Treasurer and Chair Elect. She has 27 years’ experience as a steno writer and has obtained two certifications in captioning and three in court reporting: RPR, CSR Texas, CSR Washington. As a stenographer, she began her career at a trial analysis firm, immersing herself in corporate litigation, specifically in the fields of aviation disasters, engineering, and the tech industry. She has resided, traveled, and reported in various regions of the U.S., gaining experience in a wide variety of subject matter and regional familiarity. Those experiences led to a career in global broadcast captioning and CART services. Her captioning of NASA events renewed her love for STEM, which led to her area of specialties: tech, engineering, and academia. Kimberly believes that for decades, captioners have needed an organization that represents them apart from other industries and that consumer representation in that organization is vital because it provides a space for those who use captions to have a voice regarding their accommodations. She believes that united, captioners and consumers have an ability to shine a light on the incredible access possibilities that are available with captioning, the importance of quality standards, and the value of a service that makes a difference in people’s lives every day. |
