Lydia Oxenreider, Secretary (2024-2025)Lydia graduated high school in 2003. After visiting AIB College of Business in Des Moines, she decided to pursue the field of captioning because they told her she would be working from home and providing captions for TV shows. She thought to herself, “this sounds like fun. Just sitting there and watching tv.” After graduating and starting her career, she learned it’s more than that. It’s a lifeline for folks that are hearing, hard of hearing, and deaf. She started to feel valued that she could provide such an important service. She started off her career working for Caption Colorado and VITAC providing captions for news stations, city council meetings, stadiums, and two Olympics. In 2021, Lydia took the leap and became an independent contractor. From here, her love for captioning and service to those that need it grew. She obtained her CRC just six months after becoming an IC and plans to get her NCSP certification soon. Lydia became a member of the Global Alliance in 2022. From there she became Chair of the Education Committee and now on the Board of Directors. Her goal while serving is to keep spreading the word of the Global Alliance and about the quality of captions for everyone. She hopes to reach out to those that are just starting their careers in captioning and tell them about the Global Alliance. She wants captioners and consumers and educators to know the Global Alliance just as much as they know other organizations in this field. |
